Obituary for Chester "Chet" Hoover Masser, Sr.

Chester “Chet” Hoover Masser Sr., age 90, of Hagerstown and formerly of New Windsor, died peacefully after a brief illness on, Thursday, August 2, at Sterling Care in Boonsboro.
Born July 28, 1928 in Thurmont, he was the son of the late Harry L. and Mary E. Delaughter Masser. He was the husband of Marianna Myers Masser, his wife of 68 years.
Mr. Masser served in the Army, 40th Division, 160th Infantry during the Korean War, seeing action at Heartbreak Ridge and surviving 3 mass attacks. He was employed for 30 years with Hall’s Motor Transit of Mechanicsburg, PA, retiring in 1985. He was a member of Outdoor World camping organization. He and his wife enjoyed spending winters in Lakeland, FL.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are son, Chester H. Masser Jr. and wife Kathy of Hagerstown; two granddaughters, Christine Barnes and husband Evan of Shepherdstown, Rebecca Armstrong and husband Doug of Kanas City, MO.; step-grandson Stephen Heefner II of Hagerstown; and great-grandchildren, Kirsten Shenberger, Wyatt Barnes and Kayla Armstrong.
He was predeceased by 4 sisters and 6 brothers. He was the last surviving member of his family.
The family will receive friends at Hartzler Funeral Home, 310 Church St., New Windsor on Monday, August 6 from 5 to 8 p.m.
A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, August 7, at 11 a.m. Rev. Dan Ceary, his pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, Uniontown.
