Obituary for Doris E. Stitely

Doris Evelyn Stitely, age 86, of Johnsville, passed away Thursday, May 3, 2018 at Citizens Care and Rehabilitation Center, Frederick. Born June 5, 1931 in Ladiesburg, she was the oldest daughter of the late Paul and Katherine Martin Saylor. She was the wife of Harry D. Stitely for 59 years.
Doris was a member of the former Beaver Dam Church of the Brethren where she was actively involved with youth groups and Women’s Fellowship. Doris held several jobs when she wasn’t home raising her family. She worked at Cambridge Rubber Co. in Taneytown and as a GNA at Brookfield Manor Resident Care in Middleburg. From 1976 until her retirement in 1998 she was employed at the Union Bridge Pharmacy.
Doris enjoyed reading, planting flowers and eating out. She loved going to the Waffle House for breakfast, her favorite meal, and she also enjoyed going to the Elk’s Lodge on Thursday nights for “all you can eat crabs”. She loved family gatherings and helped to organize the family reunion and Christmas party every year.
In addition to her husband she is survived by son, David Stitely and wife Teresa of Middletown, daughters, Carla Fisher and husband Greg of Monroe, GA and Tina Thompson and husband Richard of Cascade; 8 grandchildren of whom she was very proud, Devin, Wyatt and Bailey Jo Stitely, Sayler Hammer (Brandon), Dallas Buckley (Liam), Remington Hasty, Chad Thompson and special friend, Morganne Unger and Nichole Thompson and fiancé, Kevin Griffin; sister, Betty Bittner (Robert), brother-in-law, Richard Coats, sister-in-law, Erma Saylor and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers, Martin, Hall and Richard Saylor and his wife Karen and sister, Gladys Coats.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 7 at Hartzler Funeral Home, 404 S. Main St., Woodsboro, with Rev. Dr. James Benedict, officiating. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. Sunday, May 6.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 1850 York Rd., Suite D, Timonium, MD 21093.
