Obituary for Walter Elmer Martin

Walter Elmer Martin, age 77, of Walkersville, died Thursday, January 18, 2018 at his home.
Born February 18, 1940 in Alexandria, VA, he was the son of the late John William Martin and Refa Marie Deavers Martin. He was the husband of Barbra Lee Warner Martin, his wife of 56 years.
Mr. Martin retired from Eastalco as a mason working for more than 25 years. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Frederick. He enjoyed history, especially Civil War and reenactments, fishing, barbecuing, watching the Preakness, going to family reunions and the Children’s Haven reunions, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are children, Walter Lee Martin of Walkersville, Crystal Lynn Martin Logsdon and husband James of Pensacola, FL, Robin Elizabeth Martin Oakes and husband Kirk of Hickory, NC and Thomas William Martin of Walkersville; daughter-in-law, Le Ann Martin of Union Bridge; grandchildren, Drew Logsdon, Tonya Riley, Breeze Riley, Kayla Martin and Grant Martin; three great-grandchildren, Savanna, Wyatt and Hadley; brother, Emmett Martin and wife Marjorie of Picayune, MS; brothers-in-law, Claude Jr., Mark, Mike and Pat Warner; sisters-in-law, Mary Jane Hooper, Florence Pratt and Vanessa Hiltner; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends and acquaintances.
He was predeceased by his son, Robert Wayne Martin in 2013; brothers-in-law, Chris Warner and John Clutter; and sister-in-law, Lucille Clutter.
The family will receive friends on Monday, January 22, 2018 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Hartzler Funeral Home, 404 S. Main St., Woodsboro. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. with Elder Tim Greer officiating. Interment will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.
Memorial contributions may be made towards Hodgkin’s Disease Research to Lymphoma Research Foundation, Wall Street Plaza, 88 Pine Street, Suite 2400, New York, NY 10005 or towards the Rosebud Indian Reservation to St. Francis Mission Foundation, P.O. Box 499, St. Francis, SD 57572.
