Thomas Leo Knott Jr., 75, of Mt. Airy, died Saturday, Sept. 3, 2011, at his home, after a brief illness. Born March 30, 1936 in Boyds, MD, he was the son of the late Thomas Leo Sr. and Ruth Rimmick McDonough Knott. He was the husband of Betty Jean Renner Knott, his wife of 35 years. In his younger years Mr. Knott worked in dairy farming and then for 34 years with Frederick Iron and Steel, and retired after 10 years with Frederick Fence Company. He was an avid outdoorsman. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are daughters, Robin Gaver and husband John of Mt. Airy, Kathy Lovell and husband Dewey of Libertytown; son, Thomas Douglas Knott and wife, Katy of Ottumwa, Iowa; step-sons, David William Karr Jr. and wife Brittany Ayres of Hagerstown, Andrew Scott Karr and wife Barbara of Boonsboro, Kelly Jay Karr and Nancy Walter of Mt. Airy; 22 grandchildren, Kenneth and Heather, Vicky, Robert, Tommy, Kelly and Michelle, Maria, Amanda and Samantha, Brady, Angela and Shawn, Garrett and Tyler, William and Kayla, Jennifer, Julie and Pattie, Cheyenne and Kelly Jr.; sister, Ruth Ann Worrell of Mt. Airy; brothers, Wayne Knott Sr. of Brunswick, Robert Knott Sr. of Mt. Airy; and many beloved nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6 at Hartzler Funeral Home, 11802 Liberty Rd., Libertytown, with Elder Carl Restivo of Jehovahâ€(TM)s Witness, Eldersburg, officiating. Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.
