Emery R. Scaglione, age 92, of New Market, died Friday, April 7, 2017 at his home after an extended illness. Born June 20, 1924 in Windber, PA, he was the son of the late Rafaele and Assunta D'Amico Scaglione. He was the husband of Rita R. Scaglione who died in 2009.
Mr. Scaglione was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with degrees in economics and accounting. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, seeing action in the Pacific Theater. He retired as an accountant with the Department of Navy, was a member of St Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, Libertytown and was an avid Pittsburgh Steeler fan.
Surviving are daughters, Linda Short of Phoenix, AZ, Judith Flynn and husband William of Hampstead and Joan Durham and husband Richard of Mt. Airy; sons, William E. Scaglione and wife Jan of Middletown and Mark S. Scaglione of New Market; 12 grandchildren, Amy, Julie, Jennifer, John, Robert, Nathan, Luke, Melissa, Ryan, Lindsay, Adrian and Katie and 15 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by sister, Mary Manotti and brothers, William and Joseph Scallion and Stephen Scaglione.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 11 at St. Peter's Catholic Church with concelebrants, Rev. Fr. Jason Worley, church pastor and Rev. Fr. Thomas Smith, of Mt. St. Mary's. Interment will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday, April 10 at Hartzler Funeral Home, 11802 Liberty Rd., Libertytown.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Building Fund of St. Peter's Catholic Church, 9190 Church St., Union Bridge, MD 21791.
