Obituary for Melvin Eugene Baile

Melvin Eugene Baile Sr., age 79, of New Windsor, died Friday, February 9, 2018 at Copper Ridge, Sykesville. Born July 18, 1938 in Baltimore City, he was the son of the late Herman C. and Olive A. Ritter Baile. He was the husband of Gale Patricia Baile, his wife of 58 years.
Melvin was a 1956 graduate of New Windsor High School and attended the University of Maryland. He farmed with his father for many years and then with his son, and also worked at the Westminster Stock Yards for 20 years. He served on the boards of FHA and FSA, formerly ASCS. Melvin served as chairman of the Future of Agriculture committee for Carroll County in the late 80’s. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Westminster, the New Windsor Progressive Farmers, Carroll County Farm Bureau, and the Carroll County Oldtimers Baseball Association. Melvin bowled duck pins for many years and enjoyed traveling with his wife, visiting South America, Europe, Scandinavia, Hawaii, Alaska, Canada, the Islands and many parts of the United States. He played baseball in his younger years and loved watching sports, especially those of his grandchildren and he also loved trains. Melvin served numerous times as an officer with the New Windsor High School Alumni Association. He volunteered with the New Windsor Fire Co. carnival and the Carroll County Farm Museum for many years. He was instrumental in assisting with the relocation of the Hoff Barn to the Farm Museum.
In addition to his wife he is survived by sons, Melvin E. Baile Jr. and wife Joan and Tony B. Baile and wife June, all of New Windsor; daughter, Lisa A. Koons and husband Richard of Hanover, PA; grandchildren, Dr. Matthew Baile and wife Jennifer, Lauren Adams and husband Chris, Bethany Brown and husband Justin, Peter Baile, Megan West and husband Eric and Kristen Quichua and husband Dwight; great grandchildren, Savannah and Reagan Baile and Ainsley and Hayden West; a niece, nephew and cousins. He was predeceased by brother, Robert R. Baile.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 17 at Windsor Station of the New Windsor Volunteer Fire Co., with Rev. Matthew Glasgow, his pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Pipe Creek Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Windsor Station 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, February 16 and Saturday one hour prior to the time of service.
