Obituary for Marie Elizabeth Flohr

Marie Elizabeth Flohr, 87, of near Libertytown, died Sunday, July 2, 2017 at Citizens Care and Rehabilitation Center of Frederick. She was the widow of the late Edgar Lee Flohr, who preceded her in death in January 1995. They had been married for 44 years.
Born December 9, 1929, near Johnsville, she was the daughter of the late Helen Vadie Conner Weddle and Alvie S. Wolfe and the stepdaughter of the late Jesse Henry Weddle Jr.
She was a 1947 graduate of Frederick High School and while a student there she supported the USO, serving as a pen pal to numerous servicemen and volunteering at dances in Frederick. Marie met Edgar when she was 18 years old, when he went to work for Marie’s mothers on the family farm. Mrs. Flohr attended the Walkersville United Methodist Church and had served as office manager at a number of real estate offices in Frederick. At the age of 70, she retired as a contractor with the U.S. Department of Energy in Germantown.
Mrs. Flohr had been a resident of Montevue Assisted Living from March to April of this year, moving to Citizens when her health declined in early April. The family extends a special thank you to the nursed and aides at Montevue and Citizens for the care provided over the last several months.
Surviving are three daughters, Helen Kennedy and husband William of North Myrtle Beach, SC, Rochelle Hopkinson of Sharpsburg MD and Connie Flohr and wife Melanie Holt of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter-in-law Shirley Flohr of Johnsville, MD; grandchildren, Stacie Ridgely and husband Randy Lowery of Myrtle Beach, Jay Morgan and wife Kelli of Sharpsburg and Jennifer Wachter and husband Mark of Johnsville; 6 great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter. Marie is missed by her feline grandkids, Stuart, Louie, Frank, Sam and Benjamin, and also by her granddog, Maggie Moo. Marie will be remembered by her daughters’ in-laws, Carrie Kennedy and Bernon and LaNea Holt. Mrs. Flohr was predeceased by her son, Daniel Flohr (2010), son-in-law, Terence Hopkinson (2013), brother James B. Wolfe (2016) and his wife Shirley (2017).

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 6 at Hartzler Funeral Home, 11802 Liberty Rd., Libertytown, with visitation starting at 9:30 a.m. until time of service. Officiating will be Rev. Margaret Moon, pastor of Johnsville United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.
