Obituary for Jean Mantell Havel

Jean Mantell Havel, age 61, of Columbia, died unexpectedly Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at her home. Born May 15, 1956 in Frederick, she was the daughter of the late David Francis Mantell and Sue Patricia Crum Mantell.
Jean worked in the media, education and social services fields. She enjoyed crafting, especially with polymer clay, taught classes in this medium and published an on-line magazine devoted to using polymer clay. She also enjoyed international film and television and devoted a great deal of time to family genealogy.
Surviving are daughter, Katherine “Katie” Krushinski and boyfriend Will Edmondson of Mobile, AL; sisters, Teresa “Teri” Mantell of Columbia and Susan Cobb and husband James of Durham, NC; nephew, Justin Paul Cobb; aunt, Helen Hubbard; uncle, John Robert “Bob” Mantell (MaryLou) and cousins. She will also be remembered by very special friend, Samuel G. Guss.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 31 at Hartzler Funeral Home, 404 S. Main St., Woodsboro, with Deacon Mike Currens, of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Frederick, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Family Violence & Rape Crisis Services, P.O. Box 1105, Pittsboro, NC 27312.
