James Azzat “Jamie” El-Shafey, age 25, of Hagerstown, died unexpectedly Thursday, February 22, 2018 in the line of duty.
Born Nov. 20, 1992 in Virginia, he was the beloved son of Tarek El-Shafey and Renee Ricci, both of Hagerstown.
Jamie was a 2010 graduate of Linganore High School, where he met the love of his life and mother of his children, Jacklyn El-Shafey. They have been a couple for 9 years and married for one year. Together they have 2 daughters, Adriana and Amira.
While a senior in high school Jamie was part of the State Championship football team. Currently he was in the process of completing his Bachelor’s Degree in criminal justice at Frostburg University. He was employed with the Frederick County Sheriff’s Department, where he loved his job and co-workers. He enjoyed fireworks, Gatorade and was an avid Redskins fan. He received the most joy out of being a father and spending time with his family. He was a friend to many and will be missed by all.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, daughters and parents, are sisters, Caiti El-Shafey of Frederick and Jennifer Barber and husband Chad of Libertytown; brother, Robby El-Shafey and fiancée Megan Bell of Frederick; and a large extended family. Jamie was an amazing uncle to Ryan and Aubree.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 28 at 11 a.m. at Frederick Church of the Brethren, 201 Fairview Ave., Frederick. Rev. James Benedict, interim pastor, will officiate.
Interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.
