Obituary for Doris May Miller

Doris May Miller, 79, of Hampstead, passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at the Carroll Hospice Dove House, Westminster. Doris, known by many names, including “Dut”, “D” and “Memaw”, was born September 19, 1938 in Detour to the late Lester and Beatrice Dutrow. She was the wife of the late Paul Monroe Miller, whom she married in 1961.
Doris graduated from Walkersville High School in 1956 where she played basketball and soon after, began her life as part of a farming family in New Windsor. Following a move to Hampstead, she started a 40-year career at Black and Decker Co., where she held various positions, including supervisor.
Doris enjoyed spending time with her family, organizing holiday picnics and cooking for her loved ones. She was a bowler in her early years, and an avid shopper later in life. She traveled to Ireland twice in her life, but enjoyed the much shorter trip to one of her daughter’s houses to see her grandchildren just as much. She was fan of the Food and Game Show Networks, Orioles, Ravens, Maryland Terrapins and NASCAR. She was also a member of the Christian Singles of St. John’s Lutheran Church.
In addition to her parents and husband, Doris was predeceased by sister-in-law, E. Jeannette Dutrow, nephew Chris Stauffer and longtime best friend, Charlotte Forrester. Doris is survived by her two daughters, Karen Owings of Westminster and Rhonda Drew of Hampstead, as well as their husbands, Dan and Eddie. Also surviving are her brother, Robert Dutrow of New Midway and sister, Kathryn Stauffer of Frederick; three grandchildren, Matthew, Justin and Samuel and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews; brothers- and sisters-in-law, cousins and many loving friends.
A funeral service will be held at Hartzler Funeral Home, 310 Church St., New Windsor, at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 5. Interment will follow in Pipe Creek Cemetery, Union Bridge.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home, 12:30 – 2:30 p.m. Sunday, February 4 and on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
