Obituary for Carroll Sparkman

Carroll Sparkman, age 84, of New Market, died Sunday, July 9, 2017 at Kline Hospice House.
Born June 17, 1933 in Defeated Creek, KY, he was the son of the late John D. and Isabelle Sparkman. He was the husband of Laura Sparkman, his wife of 29 years.
Mr. Sparkman served in the Army and was a carpenter for most of his working life. He loved fishing, hunting and Blue Grass music. He was an avid banjo player, playing with the Glade Valley Travelers and Glade Valley Express.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two sons, Terry Sparkman and Jeffrey Sparkman, both of Statesville, NC; step children, Darlene, Leroy and Michael; grandchildren, Stephanie, Jessica and Laura; step grandchildren, Kevin, Patricia, Bryant, Tommy, Bridget and Heather; two great-grandchildren; eight step great-grandchildren; sisters, Jeanette and Nadine; and brother, James.
He was predeceased by a grandson, Todd; three sisters; and four brothers.
The family will receive friends at Hartzler Funeral Home, 404 S. Main St., Woodsboro, on Wednesday, July 12 from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday at 11 a.m. Rev Dahl Drenning, a retired Lutheran pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in Mt. Tabor Cemetery, Rocky Ridge.
