Daniel D. Hartzler
Daniel, a fourth generation funeral director, is a 1959 graduate of New Windsor High School and a 1960 graduate of Eckels College of Mortuary Science, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he received the Dean's Award. He has been licensed since 1963.
From 1988 through 1989 Dan served as president of the Maryland State Funeral Directors Association. He has served as chairman of the credentials committee and on several other committees with the National Funeral Directors Association.
Catharine O. Hartzler
Catharine O. "Kit" became a licensed member of the funeral home in 1977. She is a 1958 graduate of New Windsor High School and a 1962 graduate of Western Maryland College. Her major was physical education and for two years she taught at Francis Scott Key High School.
In 1974 Kit enrolled in the second class of the new mortuary science program at Catonsville Community College. She completed the certificate program in 1976. She became licensed in 1977 and received the Maryland State Funeral Directors Association Award for achieving the highest grade in the examination of the Maryland State Board of Funeral Directors and Embalmers.
Jeffrey S. Hartzler
Jeffrey "Jeb" is a 1982 graduate of Francis Scott Key High School and attended Catonsville Community College, completing the mortuary science certificate program. He became licensed in 1988, becoming the fifth generation of the Hartzler family of funeral directors.
In 1989 he completed training for the Maryland State Police, becoming a Trooper First Class. He continued his employment with the state police until 1995, when he came back to the funeral service as a full-time funeral director.
Sandra L. Hartzler Brothers
In 1998 Sandra received her Funeral Directors license. Sandy is a 1986 graduate of Francis Scott Key High School and in 1994 received her Bachelor of Science degree from Villa Julie College, majoring in Computer Information Systems. She was employed as a computer programmer/analyst before coming to the funeral service in 1996.
She graduated from the Catonsville Community College Mortuary Science Program in 1997 with an Associates Degree and in 1998 also received the Maryland State Funeral Directors Association Award for Achieving the Highest Grade on the National Board Exam in the state of Maryland.
Jill A. Trail
Jill A. Trail is a 1987 graduate of Walkersville High School. She began attending college in her late 30’s and graduated from Catonsville Community College where she earned her AAS in 2011 for Mortuary Science. During her education she worked for a monument company in Frederick, MD, helping people create life stories to last through the ages. It is a complex part of the bereavement process.
Jill understands the delicate nature and importance of being a part of each family’s journey toward healing. Jill was brought on board at Hartzler Funeral Home, PA in May of 2011, where she completed her Maryland required apprenticeship. She received her morticians license in May of 2012.
